Lifelong sports fan Michael Anderson, Glenside, has aspired to be a professional sports commentator since eighth grade.

“It’s rare to find a sport that I can’t talk about,” he shared when asked if he has a favorite sport or team. “I inherited my love of sports from my dad.”

Soon after Anderson enrolled at Montgomery County Community College two years ago, he encountered Montco Radio, the College’s student-run Internet radio station, during a Student Leadership and Involvement club fair.

“I asked if the station had a sports show, and was told that I could host one if I was interested.”

In the next few weeks, the “Sports Lounge” was born. You can catch Anderson on Montco Radio every Friday from 1-2 p.m. doing what he loves best – talking sports.

“Radio is so much fun,” he said. “I love talking with people who can speak my language of non-stop sports.”

In addition to hosting his own show on Montco Radio, Anderson has the opportunity to further hone his audio production skills in MCCC’s Communications program. Students in the program get hands-on experience in state-of-the art production studios and are taught by professionals in the radio and audio production industries.

Anderson has also learned about his field through multiple internships, first with Philadelphia School District’s television station PSTV while in high school, and later with Comcast Spectator while at MCCC.

“I worked at the Sixers Charity Auction and the Flyers Wives Carnival, and I got to interact with people during the games,” he said.

Anderson also works in the merchandise booths during Philadelphia Eagles games and other events at Lincoln Financial Field, and he works as a photographer for the Philadelphia Phillies.

When he graduates in December with an Associate in Arts degree in Communications from MCCC, Anderson plan to transfer to a four-year institution to continue his study of Communications – moving one step closer to fulfilling his dream.
